HELLO, I’M LANEY

You don’t need to have it all figured out.

You just need somewhere to start.

On paper, my own life looked successful. I had built a 27 year corporate career, worked internationally, led teams and development programmes and had a life I had worked hard for. Yet underneath all that confidence and capability was a persistent voice questioning whether I was good enough.

For more than 20 years, the part of my career I loved most was helping people grow. As a line manager, coach and development programme lead, I worked with people at all stages of their careers, helping them understand their strengths, build confidence, navigate change and work out what they wanted next.

In my mid-thirties, heartbreak took me into counselling. What I thought would be about a relationship ending became something much bigger: the beginning of understanding myself. I started to recognise the beliefs, experiences and stories I had carried with me for years, and how much they influenced the choices I made and the way I saw myself.

That curiosity about people, including myself, has shaped much of the last decade. Alongside counselling and my own personal development, I trained professionally in Transformational Coaching on a year long Association for Coaching accredited programme, studied counselling and psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, became MBTI accredited and continued coaching and developing people throughout my corporate career.

Then life shifted again.

In 2025, my relationship of almost ten years ended, and I unexpectedly lost my mum. Both made me take stock of where I was and what I wanted from the next part of my life. I took a year away from work, moved home to Scotland, spent more time outside, travelled solo through Asia and Australia and, probably for the first time in a very long time, gave myself proper space to think.

When it was time to return to corporate life, I knew I didn't want to. After 27 years, I left a successful career without having every detail of what came next neatly mapped out.

What I did know was that I wanted more purpose, more freedom and more of the thing I'd always found most fulfilling: helping people understand themselves, recognise what they're capable of and make meaningful changes in their lives.

So that's what I do now.

What is coaching?

I don't believe coaching is about someone else telling you how to live your life. Most of the time, you already know far more than you think you do. The problem is that life gets noisy. We get caught up in responsibilities, expectations, old beliefs, other people's opinions and our own overthinking, and it becomes difficult to hear ourselves clearly.

Coaching gives you dedicated space to stop and properly think. To explore what is and isn't working, understand what matters to you now, recognise strengths you may have stopped seeing and challenge some of the assumptions that could be keeping you stuck.

Sometimes that means working through a career change or deciding what comes next. Sometimes it's rebuilding confidence after a difficult chapter, reconnecting with yourself after years of prioritising everyone else, or simply knowing that something needs to change without having a clue where to start.

You don't need to arrive with the answer. Finding it is part of the work.

What can you expect from me as a coach?

First and foremost, you can expect to be heard.

I'll create a space where you can be completely yourself, without judgement and without needing to have everything figured out. I'm naturally curious, I build relationships quickly and I'll probably ask you questions that make you look at things from an angle you hadn't considered before.

But I'm not just there to listen and nod. I'll challenge you when I think it will help, notice when you're playing down your strengths and gently question the stories you tell yourself as facts. We'll explore your values, strengths, beliefs, patterns and what gives or drains your energy, but we'll also make sure that insight turns into something useful in the real world.

I'm not going to hand you a shiny five step formula or pretend every answer arrives with a vision board. My approach is warm, honest, practical and grounded in real life as well as professional experience with more than 20 years of developing and coaching people and the reality of navigating change myself.

I know what it feels like to question yourself, lose your sense of direction, have life turn out differently from the version you'd imagined and wonder what on earth you're supposed to do next.

I also know how powerful it can be to have someone help you see yourself, and your possibilities, a little more clearly.

Maybe you're at your own crossroads

You might be thinking about changing career, rebuilding after a difficult period, wondering where you disappeared to somewhere along the way or looking at a perfectly good life and thinking, surely there must be more than this?

You don't need to know exactly what you want from coaching before getting in touch. Sometimes “I know something needs to change, but I don't know where to start” is the perfect place to begin.

If that sounds familiar, let's have a conversation and see whether coaching with me feels right for you. No pressure, no hard sell. Just a chat about where you are now and where you might like to go next.
